Fact Check on Union Communication

The Company is focused on investing in our associates with good wages and benefits, while keeping groceries affordable for our customers, too.

  • We want to put more money in your pocket.
  • The Union seems to be focused on distracting negotiations and delaying the process.
  • UFCW 555 continues to try to negotiate contracts that do not expire until well into next year.
  • The Company has provided multiple offers, while the Union has been unwilling to find a creative and workable solution—a solution that is good for our associates, while keeping groceries affordable for our customers.
  • The Union seems more interested in publicly attacking the Company than coming to a workable solution for its members.

Here Are the Facts

  • The Fred Meyer Portland Grocery and Meat contracts expired August 10, 2024.
  • In negotiations, our standard practice is to focus on contracts that have expired or are set to expire soon.
  • The Company offered the Union 12 Portland bargaining dates—the Union agreed to two dates for Portland through Nov. 12.  Click to review the proposed Bargaining Dates we gave the Union on Sept. 12.
  • We are only scheduled to meet on Oct. 15 and Nov. 12 for the Portland contracts, almost three months after expiration.  Click to review the email response from the Union.
  • In addition, the Company proposed 16 separate meeting dates for other expired or soon-to-expire contracts.
  • Is this delay good for you, or is it preventing more money from going into your pocket?

The Union has offered little flexibility to get to an agreement—this is bad faith bargaining.

  • The Union is stalling and not bargaining in good faith to reach an agreement.
  • You should ask your Union why they have NOT agreed to additional bargaining dates for the expired contracts, beyond the limited dates they have offered.
  • You should ask your Union how delaying more money in your paycheck is good for you, their members.
  • Do you really want Union dues—your money—used to harm the Company you work for by funding their Don’t Shop campaign, which could have a long-term impact on associates and the business?
  • Ask the Union why they are encouraging customers not to shop in our stores, which make your paychecks possible and supports both your livelihood and Fred Meyer’s?
  • Don’t be fooled by Local 555’s tactics. They are an attempt to distract you from the facts.

You have the right to speak up. You can call your Union and insist they get back to the table and focus on the expired Portland contracts. We will keep you informed through your store leader and on www.FredMeyerCBA.com. Thank you for all you do to support each other and our communities.
