Fred Meyer and UFCW Local 555 Resume Bargaining for Portland and Bend Contracts

On August 5 and 6, Fred Meyer and UFCW Local 555 bargaining committees resumed negotiations on the Portland and Bend meat and grocery contracts.

What’s New

The company and union are scheduled to continue discussions on August 14 and August 15.  During this week’s session, the union shared their concerns on communication and process. We appreciate the dialogue as we stand firmly in our commitment to you.

Proud Union Employer

Fred Meyer is a proud union employer and believes in investing in our associates.

  • We want to secure your pension so that it is there for you when you retire. In fact, we invested nearly $10 million in 2023 on your pension benefits.
  • It’s important to us that you have affordable healthcare, and it’s there when you need it. We spent almost $38 million for your health care benefits last year.

Bargaining is a Process

Bargaining is about discussing ideas, finding areas of compromise, and coming to a solution that is both good for our associates and keeps our Fred Meyer stores competitive.

  • This deliberate effort is a necessary part of the process, and it can take time to reach an agreement.

What to Expect

For the next several weeks, the company and union are scheduled to meet and discuss proposals, working through ideas and concerns. We will continue to work in partnership to reward our associates and invest in your futures. We have made a commitment to you to reach a fair and balanced agreement and invest in:

  • Associate wages
  • Affordable healthcare
  • Pension benefits for your retirement
