Union-Related Paycheck Deductions to Stop Until Further Notice

November 23rd, 2021

As you know, UFCW Local 555 provided notice to the company on November 18 that it was withdrawing the contract extension, and this extension would expire on November 28, 2021.

What happens next?

On November 23, we notified UFCW Local 555 that with the pay period beginning November 28, we will utilize our legal right to no longer deduct union dues, initiation fees, or other union-related deductions from associates’ paychecks until further notice.

What does this mean for you?

If you have been having union dues taken out of your paycheck, effective with your December 9 paycheck, you will not have union dues deducted by Fred Meyer.

Why are we stopping union dues?

Since the contract is being cancelled by the union, the terms and conditions requiring the company to deduct union dues, initiation fees, and other deductions for the union is no longer valid. We also believe that the cancellation of the contract is premature since the parties have not exchanged economic proposals. We have requested that UFCW Local 555 explain their reason for the cancellation of the extension, and they have not provided any reason to the company.

The good news is that we have scheduled more bargaining dates for the week of December 6.
